PUTNAM SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA performs at least two concerts per year, one in the fall and one in the spring. The performances are generally held at the Brewster High School on Foggintown Road in Brewster, New York. Performances will include repertoire ranging from classical chamber music to the larger, more contemporary sounds of a full symphonic orchestra. Smaller ensembles may perform from time to time, either as part of the regularly scheduled concert or at other venues. The repertoire for these performances is dependent upon the make-up of the ensemble.
The orchestra has performed in conjunction with community fund-raising events such as the Putnam Hospital Fair, and the orchestra or its musicians have performed with community groups that include the local school systems and the Putnam Chorale.
Repertoire is selected from the orchestra's vast collection of works by composers ranging from Abicastro to Wieniawski. Of course, notables such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky are also included. The current library contains over 200 works ranging from pieces for small ensembles to concerti and full symphonies. The orchestra also has access to selected private music libraries, and will, on occasion, perform pieces obtained by rental or loan.
